The Minnesota House on Thursday unanimously approved a bill sponsored by local-area legislators that creates a motorcycle license plate for veterans wounded in combat. The bill was sponsored by Representative Kathy Brynaert of Mankato, as well as Clark Johnson of North Mankato, and Tony Cornish of Vernon Center. The Senate version is sponsored by Mankato Senator Kathy Sheran. It was inspired by Mankato Iraq veteran, Jason McNamara, who has a Purple Heart plate for a pickup truck, but learned that it wasn’t available for his motorcycle. The bill was unopposed because it simply shrinks an existing plate design to fit on a motorcycle. The Senate version of the bill was approved by the finance committee on Thursday as well.
