A groundbreaking ceremony took place Tuesday afternoon for the $24-million expansion and renovation of the Renville County Hospital in Olivia. The decision to construct a new 62,000 square-foot hospital on the east side of Olivia was made last year, with the majority of the funding for the facility coming from a USDA Rural Development loan. Once the construction begins, the hope is to have the shell of the facility enclosed by the time next winter arrives. The new hospital will be smaller than the current facility in Olivia, which is now 62 years old, but will have the latest amenities. No decision has been made yet on what will happen with the current hospital building.
