An Open House is being held today (TUE) to detail a plan to bring a herd of bison to Minneopa State Park. The proposal calls for fencing-off about 350 acres of prairie at the park just west of Mankato for bison and allowing visitors to drive through the area to view the herd. The size of the proposed herd has not been determined, but it is believed that Minneopa can support around 40-50 adult bison. The Open House to discuss the plan and hear comments from area residents will take place from 5:30 to 7pm today at the Blue Earth County Public Library in Mankato. More information can also be found on the Minnesota DNR website. The DNR has around 75 bison at Blue Mounds State Park near Luverne as well.
