An Arlington woman charged with manslaughter for the accidental drowning of her infant son last year was in court on Thursday, and Sibley County Judge Thomas McCarthy announced that he will not hear the case. McCarthy is stepping down due to his impending retirement in July. 20-year-old Christina DeLeon allegedly left her 8-month-old son unattended in a bathtub while caring for her other young son. She is facing 3 felony counts, including manslaughter and child neglect. She also allegedly had drugs in her system at the time. Her trial is set to start May 29th, and she is also scheduled to go on trial for a separate charge on that same day. That case involve DeLeon wrongfully obtaining public assistance for allegedly purchasing cans of baby formula with WIC vouchers for the deceased infant. DeLeon’s other young son continues to be cared for by the child’s grandmother while DeLeon is in custody. An adoption hearing in that matter is scheduled for June 16th.
