The trial of a Madelia man accused of raping a 4-year-old girl was delayed this week due to a possible conflict of interest with the prosecutor. 29-year-old Edgar Cano-Fernandez is facing six counts of criminal sexual conduct for the allegations in the case. He has also been re-charged for criminal sexual conduct allegations from 2007. Watonwan County Attorney Stephen Lindee excused himself from the case this week after it was determined that he had briefly appeared on behalf of Cano-Fernandez in the original court proceedings for the 2007 case. The case will now be handled by the Cottonwood County Attorney’s Office, and Cano-Fernandez is scheduled for a new pre-trial hearing on Tuesday.
