Gov. Dayton Signs Anti-Bully Bill 10 Apr 14

Governor Dayton signed a controversial anti-bullying bill into law Wednesday afternoon on the front steps of the Capitol. The governor says “nobody in this state or nation or world should have to feel bad about themselves for being who they are.”  Dayton blasted opponents’ comments that the Safe and Supportive Schools Act anti-bullying bill is “fascism” and “Orwellian,” calling their remarks “unintelligent speech” as the crowd cheered. Republicans warn the new law is not clear on what bullying is, allows government intrusion into people’s homes, and will burden school districts with more administrative costs.
