Spring Arrives In Minnesota Today 20 Mar 14

It may not seem like it after our latest round of snow this week, but it will be officially Spring in Minnesota as of this (THU) afternoon. The Vernal Equinox occurs at 11:57am today, ushering in Spring after a long, cold Winter. The word “Equinox” is derived from the Latin words meaning “Equal Night” because days and nights are approximately equal everywhere at that time. As the Sun crosses the Equator heading North today, the Earth’s sunward side will be lighted from pole to pole.
