A Bemidji man who’s already charged with beating a fellow patient at the Minnesota Security Hospital to death has now also been accused of assaulting another man. Thirty-two-year-old Darnell Dee Whitefeather is already charged with second-degree murder. A criminal complaint filed this week outlines additional allegations stemming from a fight a week earlier at the St. Peter facility. Prosecutors say Whitefeather broke another inmate’s nose on January 15th and then killed another patient on January 22nd, allegedly because he was angry at staff and wanted to get their attention. The complaint says Whitefeather attacked the first inmate after accusing the man of being a child molester. Whitefeather is being evaluated to see if he’s competent for trial.
