A rural Mankato blacktopping business was destroyed by a fire Sunday afternoon. Firefighters from Kasota were reportedly the first on the scene when the fire at WW Blacktopping broke out at around 1:30pm Sunday. A series of explosions inside the facility hampered efforts to contain the fire, and firefighters from Kasota, Cleveland, Eagle Lake, Madison Lake, St. Peter, Mankato, Le Sueur and Le Center spent several hours fighting the flames as black smoke poured out of the building. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but the building is a total loss. There were no injuries reported.
