The Golden Gopher men’s basketball team kept itself in the NCAA Tournament discussion with an 81-63 win over Penn State yesterday at Williams Arena. Senior Austin Hollins scored 14 points, including 11 in the first half, as Minnesota raced to a 23-to-3 lead and never looked back. DeAndre Mathieu (MATH-yoo) and Maurice Walker led Minnesota scorers with 16 points apiece, while Andre Hollins chipped in with 13. Senior Maverick Ahanmisi (ah-hahn-mee-see) matched a career high with 13 points in the game. The Golden Gophers are now 19-and-12 overall and 8-and-10 in the Big Ten. Minnesota will play Penn State on Thursday night in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis. The Gophers will likely need a win to stay in the NCAA Tournament mix.
