An unexpected turn of events occurred during action on the RS Fiber Cooperative proposal during the recent Arlington City Council meeting. The Council initially voted 3-2 to rejoin the RS Fiber Joint Powers Board, with the expectation that the city will participate in the general obligation tax abatement process. After the resolution passed, Arlington Mayor Jim Kreft announced that he would be exercising his right under the city charter to veto the resolution and return it to the city administrator with objections. The objections will be presented to the Arlington City Council at its next meeting, which starts at 6:30pm on Monday, April 7th. The Council will also vote on the same resolution at that meeting, but a four-fifths vote is now needed for adoption.
