A Sleepy Eye man was injured in a single-vehicle car accident in New Ulm Tuesday afternoon. It happened at just before 5pm in the parking lot of the New Ulm Runnings store on North Garden Street. 44-year-old Gregory W. Helget told police that he had become distracted after entering the parking lot in his 2013 Chevy K15 and he ran into a light standard on a concrete base. Helget was wearing his seatbelt, and an airbag did deploy, but he suffered a possible neck injury and was taken to the New Ulm Medical Center. His vehicle took moderate damage.
Two people were injured in a head-on crash in Kandiyohi County Wednesday morning. The Minnesota State Patrol says that an SUV driven by 58-year-old Vickie Tompt of New London crossed the center line on icy roads near Pennock and hit a sedan head-on. Tompt and the other driver, 30-year-old Andrew Deboer of Willmar, are both hospitalized with serious injuries. The crash remains under investigation, and no other information is available.
