Authorities continue to investigate the cause of a train derailment near Olivia Friday afternoon. Four cars on a Twin Cities & Western Railroad freight train went off the tracks about a mile east of Olivia in Bird Island Township at around 3pm Friday. Sheriff’s deputies responding to the scene found that three empty tanker cars and a fully-loaded coal car had left the tracks, but none of them tipped over. The derailment blocked an intersection and a private driveway, and railroad personnel were called to the scene to clear the blockage and repair the tracks. There were no reports of injuries.
