A New Ulm veterinarian has been named the Veterinarian of the Year by the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Sharon Hurley of the New Ulm Regional Veterinary Center received the award last weekend. The award is given to a veterinarian for outstanding service to the community and the profession. Hurley is a past president of the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association and Minnesota Veterinary Foundation. She has lived in New Ulm since 1981. She was the first woman member of the New Ulm Rotary Club, co-founded and served on the Pro-Kinship For Kids Board of Directors, is a Boy Scouts Merit Badge counselor, and has served as a 4H mentor and judge at the Brown County Fair. She also volunteers at the Surgery Suite and Miracle of Birth exhibits at the Minnesota State Fair.
