A New Ulm man wanted for violating the terms of his release after assaulting a New Ulm Police officer last year was arrested over the weekend after leading authorities on a high-speed chase through downtown Mankato neighborhoods. 26-year-old Valen Izaic Olson had resisted arrest in September and ran from the New Ulm officer after assaulting him. He is scheduled to go to trial for that case on February 13th, but a warrant had been issued for his arrest for violating his release conditions, and a traffic stop in Mankato on Saturday led to the chase with police that ended with Olson crashing into a snowbank and struggling with officers while attempting to flee on foot before being Tazed several times. Methamphetamine paraphernalia was allegedly found in his vehicle as well, and Olson reportedly admitted to using the drug. Now he’s in custody in the Blue Earth County Jail.
