Local Area Manufacturer Closes 01 Feb 14

Nearly 50 area residents were out of work as of Friday following the closure of the Midwest Electric plant on Highway 22 north of Mankato. The employees of the longtime manufacturer were told about the facility closing a year ago by the plant’s owner, General Electric, which says that the closure is due to “changing conditions” and “in order to meet customer needs.” The more-than 40-year-old business made outdoor electrical panels. Employees are reportedly being offered severance income and job placement.
