Some round hay bales falling off a semi-trailer in Nicollet County Tuesday evening caused a rear-end crash that left a Willmar man injured. 48-year-old Peter McKenzie was taken to the Sibley Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries after the crash, which happened at just before 8pm on Highway 22. The State Patrol says that a Villard man was driving a semi with a load of hay bales northbound on 22 when four of the round bales fell off the trailer. 40-year-old Thomas Podratz of Gaylord, who was directly behind the semi, swerved to avoid the bales and stopped on the shoulder. A third vehicle, driven by McKenzie, also swerved to avoid the bales but crashed into the Podratz vehicle in the process. Podratz and the semi driver were not injured.
