CHS Buys Louisiana Business 10 Feb 14

A Minnesota-based energy, grain and food cooperative has bought the fertilizer business and related assets of a river transportation service company based in northeast Louisiana. CHS Inc. says that the purchase brings eight river terminals and a ninth location owned by Terral RiverService of Lake Providence into farmer-owned cooperative CHS, which says it has been planning to expand into the lower Mississippi River region. CHS describes itself as a leading wholesale distributor of fertilizers to locally-owned cooperatives and independent farm supply retailers nationwide. Thirty-six employees of Terral RiverService will become CHS employees, but Terral RiverService will keep its port and marine operations, aggregates and cottonseed businesses.
