The Minnesota State Patrol responded to hundreds of crashes across southern Minnesota during the recent blizzard. Between Saturday and Monday, troopers in the 10-county Mankato-area district responded to a total of 165 crashes. That includes 144 vehicles that went off the road or were blocking the road as well as 5 personal injury crashes. In the 13-county Marshall-area state patrol district, which includes Redwood, Renville and Cottonwood Counties, there were 109 incidents over the 3-day period, including 3 personal-injury crashes. Authorities say that all of these crashes could have been avoided if motorists were to slow down, increase their following distance, and always heed no travel advisories.
