The Watonwan County Board on Wednesday voted to terminate Watonwan County Human Services Director Rich Collins. The decision came during a closed meeting performance review on Collins, and was reportedly based on the board’s “loss of confidence in his ability to effectively manage the department.” A replacement for him has not been selected at this time. His firing comes after the Watonwan County Human Services Department fired Fraud Investigator Jeffrey Matthew in August after he was charged with felony theft for allegedly claiming over $1,600 in wages for time he didn’t actually work. That case is still ongoing in Watonwan County Court, with a trial set to start on March 13th. Watonwan County officials have not said if that alleged crime was a factor in the termination of Rich Collins.
