A patient at the Minnesota Security Hospital in St. Peter accused of murdering a fellow patient made his first appearance in court Friday. The incident occurred Wednesday night. St. Peter police were called after an ambulance crew was unable to resuscitate 41-year-old Francis Douglas. He had been committed to the Security Hospital in December after spending 21 years in prison for the murder of a Mankato man in 1991. The suspect in his killing is 31-year-old Darnell Whitefeather, whose record includes convictions for burglary, theft, and disorderly conduct, and was committed for being mentally ill this past October. He was charged with 3 counts of murder in Nicollet County Court on Friday.
