Security Hospital Murder Investigation 27 Jan 14

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension continues to investigate the murder of a Minnesota Security Hospital patient that occurred last week. 31-year-old Darnell Dee Whitefeather was charged with 3 counts of murder in Nicollet County Court on Friday. He allegedly told authorities he assaulted fellow patient 41-year-old Michael Francis Douglas because he was angry with staff and wanted to get their attention. Whitefeather reportedly admitted to stomping on Douglas’ head as many as 30 times. He was found lying in his room Wednesday night with severe head trauma and died of his injuries. Whitefeather apparently told police he had no prior issues with Douglas. The Minnesota Security Hospital serves people who are committed as mentally ill or mentally ill and dangerous. Both men were committed last year. Douglas spent 21 years in prison for the murder of a Mankato man in 1991. Whitefeather’s record includes convictions for burglary, theft, and disorderly conduct.
