Residents Receiving Nusiance Calls 18 Jan 14

The New Ulm Police Department has received several complaints of nuisance phone calls received by residents of New Ulm and the surrounding area. It has been reported that the caller either hangs up once the call is answered or they direct the resident to press 2 on their phone. Authorities do not recommend pressing 2 if you receive such a call. The New Ulm Public Safety Department says that if you do get such a call on your landline phone you should hang up, and then immediately pick up the receiver and dial *57. This will initiate a customer trace with New Ulm Telecom. You should also keep a log of the phone calls, documenting the time, date, and phone number if you have Caller ID, and if the calls persist for a two week period make a report with the police department.
