Officials are urging safety on the ice after an ice fisherman died of hypothermia and accidental drowning in the Minnesota River last week. No ice is ever 100% safe, and even when it’s cold, it’s difficult for strong ice to form on rivers and channels because of the fast moving currents. Eric Lindquist of Shakopee had been reported missing by his family early last week. Officials found his body in the river on Friday. Lindquist is believed to be the first ice fatality of the year. He was a 1994 graduate of New Ulm High School.
