The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has completed its investigation into whether a Hutchinson police officer’s actions were appropriate when he shot an individual in the abdomen this past October. Following the BCA findings, the McLeod County Attorney’s Office declined to press charges against Sergeant Eric Kilian. The shooting took place following a 911 call of a suspicious person inside a multi-unit residence in Hutchinson, and the victim was hospitalized in Minneapolis. Their identity has still not been released. Sergeant Kilian returned to work following a standard administrative leave. The BCA will now forward their findings to the Hutchinson Police Department, which will conduct its own investigation into the incident and whether any charges will be requested against the wounded man.
