A maintenance building at a rural Kasota business was destroyed by a fire early Tuesday morning. The Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a fire at Hansen Sanitation at shortly after midnight., and firefighters from Kasota, St. Peter, Le Center, Cleveland, Madison Lake and Eagle Lake responded to the scene, and were still battling the blaze into the morning hours. The building has been declared a total loss, and at least 8 garbage trucks were lost in the fire. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still unknown, and the State Fire Marshall’s Office and the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office are investigating. Hansen Sanitation provides the primary garbage and recycling service for North Mankato, and trash collection is now expected to be at least one day behind schedule.
