Chicken Ordinance In Hutchinson 30 Jan 14

The Hutchinson City Council on Tuesday discussed in depth what the city’s proposed “chicken ordinance” should contain. Hutchinson is in the process of writing an ordinance that will allow residents to raise chickens in their backyards. After Tuesday’s discussion, the city attorney was directed to include several provisions in the ordinance, including requiring a license to have chickens, limiting residents to a maximum of 6 chickens per property, requiring a chicken coop and “chicken run” area that must be enclosed and in the back yard, a setback from property lines of 10 feet, and no crowing birds. The first reading of the proposed Hutchinson Chicken Ordinance and a public hearing on the issue are now set to take place on February 11th.
