The future of the Blue Earth County Fair will be decided Thursday night. A meeting is being held at Bethany Lutheran College in which Fair Shareholders will vote on a proposal to sell the county fairgrounds in Garden City and move the fair to Mankato. The fair has been losing money due to plunging attendance in recent years, and the Fair Board says they must move to Mankato to survive. There is not an actual site in Mankato chosen at this time, and a number of options are reportedly being pursued. In order to be a part of the vote on the future of the fair, you must first pay $5 to become a shareholder. Shares are being sold at Buster’s on Madison Avenue in Mankato through Wednesday, and will also be available from 4:45 to 5:45pm Thursday at Bethany before the start of the 6pm meeting. Voting is scheduled to take place at 6:20, followed by time for comments and questions. Shareholders who want to cast a ballot and leave will be able to as well.
