The Sleepy Eye City Council approved the city’s tax levy and budget for 2014 Tuesday evening following a Truth In Taxation hearing. The Sleepy Eye property tax levy for next year will go down by around 3.5% over this year’s levy, mainly due to an increase in Local Government Aid from the state. The city’s budget for 2014 is increasing by around $141,000 from this year’s budget, mainly due to a new city sales tax exemption. In other business Tuesday, the Sleepy Eye City Council held the first reading of a Dangerous Dogs ordinance that allows police to immediately seize dangerous dogs. The final approval of the ordinance will likely come during the council meeting in January.
