Authorities across the area are warning of a new phone scam. Law enforcement agencies in New Ulm, Fairmont, and Windom say that several people have been receiving automated voice messages lately. The calls vary, but some of the messages say a person’s credit or debit card has been locked. The automated call then usually asks you to enter your account number. Police stress that you should NOT enter that information when prompted. Instead, end the call and contact your financial institution yourself to verify the validity of the call.
