The St. Peter Public Library is doing away with late fees for overdue books. As of Wednesday, St. Peter Library patrons will have their outstanding fees forgiven and will no longer be charged late fees for failing to return materials before the due date. But they will have their access to some library services limited if they have overdue materials, and will be charged for materials that are lost or destroyed or not returned within six months of the due date. The no-late-fees policy is meant to draw new patrons to the library and improve community interaction by eliminating possible confrontations over the fees. The new St. Peter Library policy will not affect any limitations or fines from other libraries in the Traverse des Sioux Library System.
