2013 Deer Harvest Numbers Down 10 Dec 13

Minnesota hunters harvested a total of 164,550 deer during the 2013 season, according to preliminary numbers released by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Monday.  Excluding the late season in southeastern Minnesota, hunters harvested 144,000 deer, a 6% drop from the 153,000 harvested in 2012. State wildlife officials say that poor weekend weather was a factor in the decline, although the deer population was down because of the harsh winter last year as well. The statewide muzzleloader season remains open through this coming Sunday, and the archery season closes Tuesday, December 31st.
