Willmar Flag Burning Sentencing 20 Nov 13

A Willmar man has been sentenced to 90 days in jail and a year of probation for burning two US flags belonging to downtown Willmar businesses over the summer. 40-year-old Jeffrey James Ackerman was convicted on two 5th-degree arson charges and sentenced Tuesday. He was also fined $2,000 and ordered to pay $60 in restitution, and must write letters of apology and complete a mental health evaluation. The business owners found the damaged flags when they arrived to open for the day, and surveillance video footage was used to connect Ackerman to the crimes.
