Trial For Fatal Redwood Falls Arson 08 Nov 13

The jury trial of a Redwood Falls man facing multiple counts of attempted murder, manslaughter and arson began on Monday in Redwood County Court. 48-year-old Peter William Warren is accused of starting a fire at the Lakeside Manor Apartment Complex in Redwood Falls last January that caused the death of 72-year-old Gene Gilland and displaced about 52 residents. The state fire marshal determined that the fire was intentionally set, and had started in a first-floor closet by burning plastic and styrofoam stored there. Surveillance footage of the facility reportedly shows Warren entering the area near the closet shortly before smoke filled the room. His trial is expected to possibly be wrapped up this week still.
