A 23-year-old Springfield man has been sentenced to over 6 years in prison on a felony 1st-degree assault charge. Ronald Richard Wenisch was convicted of the crime on Monday, and charges of burglary and possessing a dangerous weapon were dismissed. Wenisch admitted to kicking in the front door of a residence in Springfield in April and striking a woman multiple times with a sword, causing her to bleed substantially. She reportedly needed dozens of stitches in her shoulder following the attack. Wenisch was sentenced to 74 months in prison on Monday, and was given credit for the 234 days he has already spent in jail. He was also ordered to pay over $3,200 in restitution and was fined over $3,400.
