Sleepy Eye Dangerous Dog Ordinance 13 Nov 13

The Sleepy Eye City Council on Tuesday held the first reading of an ordinance dealing with dangerous dogs. The proposed ordinance calls for the immediate seizure of dogs defined as dangerous, with the dog owners liable for all costs incurred. The dog’s owners would then have 14 days to register the dog as dangerous for an annual fee of $500, purchase a microchip to be implanted in the dog, and purchase $300,000 worth of liability insurance. The ordinance stems from a recent incident in Sleepy Eye in which a man walking on a sidewalk suffered serious injuries from a dog that bit him. The council was informed on Tuesday that the dog has since been “put down.”
