Escaped Juvenile Enters Guilty Plea 08 Nov 13

The second of two teenage boys facing multiple felony charges following their escape from a juvenile treatment facility in Elmore has entered a guilty plea in the case. 17-year-old Garrett Zabel this week pleaded guilty to felony counts of fleeing police on foot and theft of a motor vehicle. He and Roberto Reyes fled from the Faribault County facility on August 10th and then allegedly stole a truck and collided with multiple police squad cars during the ensuing 90 mile-per-hour car chase. The vehicle was disabled with stop sticks on Highway 169 near Vernon Center, and the two were arrested a short time after escaping on foot. Reyes has also pleaded guilty to fleeing an officer and theft of a motor vehicle, and both boys have now been sent to a juvenile facility in Red Wing to face other charges.  Zabel will reportedly receive time on probation for the Faribault County charges, and sentencing is set for January 6th.
