The State Patrol is investigating a fatal accident that happened on Highway 111 north of Nicollet Thursday night. It happened at just before 9:30pm about 4 miles from Nicollet. A 2000 Volkswagon Beetle was travelling southbound when the driver lost control and the vehicle skidded across both lanes of traffic before entering the ditch and rolling several times. Two people were apparently in the vehicle at the time, although the State Patrol has not said if both of them were killed. More information, including the names of those involved, is expected to be released later today (FRI).
An elderly Spicer man is dead after a crash with a semi-truck near Lake Lillian Thursday morning. It happened at around 9:45am at the intersection of Highway 7 and Kandiyohi County Road 2, approximately 6 miles east of Lake Lillian. The State Patrol says that a Freightliner semi-truck driven by 50-year-old Neil Dovenmuehle of Hutchinson collided with a Ford pickup truck driven by 74-year-old Elroy Knake of Spicer, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Dovenmuehle was taken to the Willmar Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The highway was closed for around 2 hours following the accident while emergency crews cleared the scene.
