St. Peter School Board Forum 26 Oct 13

The St. Peter League of Women Voters and Chamber of Commerce sponsored a public forum for the candidates running for the 3 open seats on the St. Peter District 508 School Board on Thursday. Four of the six people vying to be on the school board were on hand for the forum. Jon Carlson is a Hutchinson native who has lived in St. Peter since 1984, and both of his parents were teachers. Drew Dixon is a St. Peter High School graduate who then went to Luther College before moving back to the community to enroll his 3 sons in St. Peter Schools. Chris Harmes is also a St. Peter High School graduate, who then went on to study biology at Macalester and Dartmouth Colleges before moving back to St. Peter. Keith Stelter has served on the Minnesota Medical Association Board of Trustees, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the American Board of Family Medicine. Not present at the Candidate Forum were Dan Bergeson and Charlie Potts. The topics covered included school funding, new facilities, closing the achievement gap, school safety, standardized testing, bullying, and more. The St. Peter School Board Candidate Forum will be broadcast on 860AM-KNUJ and KNUJ-dot-Net this Sunday at 5pm. Election Day is November 5th.
