The partial federal government shutdown now underway means that around 18,000 federal employees that work and live in Minnesota will be furloughed without pay. Federal courts will operate as usual for at least another 10 days, but the longer a shutdown lasts the greater its impact will be. Governor Mark Dayton says it will threaten the entire world’s economy. Essential services such as law enforcement, health care, air travel, and mail delivery will continue, as well as meat inspectors and prison guards. Members of Congress will still get paid also.
