The commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will be convening the first-ever meeting of the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission today (MON) at the State Capitol Building in St. Paul. The Legislature established the commission this year to develop a system plan for parks and trails in Greater Minnesota. Commission members will also be providing recommendations to the Legislature for grants funded by the Parks and Trails Fund to counties and cities outside the seven-county metropolitan area. Members of the commission were appointed by Governor Dayton in August. Representing our local area are Rick Anderson of Balaton and New Ulm Park and Rec Director Tom Schmitz.
