New Ulm Woman Theft By Swindle 10 Oct 13

A New Ulm woman is facing a total of 12 felony charges of theft by swindle over accusations that she swindled an elderly Brown County woman out of tens of thousands of dollars. 51-year-old Karla Rae Townsend allegedly convinced the victim to write her several checks after claiming she needed the money for a variety of things, including legal bills and travel. The victim was reportedly swindled out of more than $70,000 by Townsend, who is scheduled to be in court for the charges on October 22nd. She has a felony check forgery conviction from 2011 in Brown County as well.
