A New Ulm man has been charged with felony theft in Brown County Court for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars in cash and electronics from his former roommate. 22-year-old Tyler Patrick Happke is accused of taking a laptop computer, a Playstation 3, numerous video games and movies, and a safe containing over $5,000 in cash and important document from the woman he had been sharing an apartment with on the 600 Block of 3rd Street North in New Ulm. Happke then reportedly sold his truck and left town. Authorities say he was found in Pierz, South Dakota, along with some of the stolen cash and other items. He’s been charged with receiving stolen property in that state, and will likely be extradited back to New Ulm. His former roommate had told police that Happke owes money for gambling losses.
