Missing Kayaker Pronounced Dead 10 Oct 13

A kayaker who went missing along the Minnesota River near Courtland this summer has been declared legally dead. 51-year-old Stephen Fritze of Watertown, South Dakota and two others were kayaking on the river on June 22nd when Fritze apparently hit a tree in the river and his kayak capsized. Dozens of different law enforcement agencies and fire and rescue departments searched the river for more than a month, but Fritze’s body was never found and the official search efforts ended in early August. A Nicollet County judge recently ordered the state to register Fritze as dead due to drowning.
