The “Pheasant Capital of Minnesota” is gearing up for two events on back-to-back weekends. The City of Madelia hosts its 5th Annual “Pheasant Phest” this Saturday and the 2013 Minnesota Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener next Friday and Saturday. The Madelia Pheasant Phest was started in 2009. This year’s event is by far the largest yet and beings with a massive clay shooting course on the city’s golf course. There will be a show Saturday by the exhibition shooting team of Aaron and Steve Gould. Next weekend Madelia hosts Governor Mark Dayton and his third Minnesota Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener. The season opens Saturday, October 12th. Madelia has more than 86-hundred acres of public hunting land within 20 miles of the city. The city’s online pheasant page can be found at mnpheasant.com.
