Harvest Update 18 Oct 13

The wet spring delayed farming activities earlier this year, but things have rebounded nicely and despite recent rains, harvest is rolling right along.

Wayne Schoper, Ag Instructor with South Central College, says yields for beans are into the 40′s and high 50′s, while corn is around 160 up to 200. He says where there are lighter soils and areas didn’t get August rains, the yields aren’t as high.

Schoper says the rains we’ve seen are very beneficial and delayed things a bit, but once farmers get going again, he feels the crop should be out by the end of the month.
