It’s Fire Prevention Month in Minnesota, and the theme is “Prevent Kitchen Fires.” Deputy State Fire Marshal Becky White says the goal is stop these fires before they start. She says if you are cooking in the kitchen using your stovetop, make sure you stay in the kitchen. She also says to make sure you clean up clutter around the stovetop to help prevent fires. White says cooking is the leading cause of fires in Minnesota, and half of all house fires begin in the kitchen. Cooking fires killed 1 person and injured 42 in our state last year. Next week is Fire Prevention Week, and KNUJ will again be travelling to area fire departments throughout the week to focus on fire safety. We’ll be broadcasting from Buffalo Lake, Lamberton, Hamburg, Hanska and Lafayette.
