A Fairmont woman was hospitalized Wednesday morning after a fire broke out in her apartment. Authorities received the fire call for the duplex home on Budd Street in Fairmont at around 5:30am Wednesday, and when firefighters arrived the fire had totally engulfed the structure. 86-year-old Donna Albert was hospitalized for burns and smoke inhalation, and was listed in Serious condition at Hennepin County Medical Center as of Wednesday. Another apartment resident was able to escape without injury. Investigators believe that the fire was caused by a faulty electric blanket. Damage to the building is being estimated at $70,000.
