One of the two teenage boys facing multiple felony charges following their escape from a juvenile treatment facility in Elmore has entered a guilty plea in the case. 17-year-olds Garrett Zabel and Roberto Reyes fled from the Faribault County facility on August 10th and then allegedly stole a truck and collided with multiple police squad cars during the ensuing 90 mile-per-hour car chase. The vehicle was disabled with stop sticks on Highway 169 near Vernon Center, and the two were arrested a short time after escaping on foot. Both boys were charged with 3 felonies. In court on Monday, Reyes pleaded guilty to fleeing an officer and theft of a motor vehicle, and the charge of use of deadly force against a peace officer was dismissed. He has now been sent to a juvenile facility in Red Wing to face charges in other counties. Zabel has not entered a plea, and has a pre-trial hearing scheduled for November 4th.
