A New Ulm woman has been charged with 2 counts of aiding and abetting felony theft by swindle over accusation that she helped another woman scam an elderly woman out of tens of thousands of dollars. 25-year-old Tanisha Medina was charged this week for her role in the crimes committed by 51-year-old Karla Townsend of New Ulm. Townsend allegedly swindled the elderly Springfield woman out of more than $70,000 by convincing that she needed the money for a variety of things, including legal bills and travel. Medina role in the crimes was to allegedly drive Townsend to Springfield to meet with the woman, and to drive the victim to the bank to cash checks. Medina reportedly received more than $14,000 for her part in the scams. Townsend has apparently settled her case out of court.
